Benson Road traffic will be maintained on the north side of Benson Road as the south half of Benson Road is being reconstructed.

Oct. 11, 2024 - Press Release:
On Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2024, an evening closure is scheduled at the Interstate 229 and Benson Road Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) construction project for crews to set a sign bridge. Northbound I-229 will be closed from approximately 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Detour Details:
During the temporary evening closure, Northbound I-229 traffic will be detoured at the Rice Street and I-229 interchange to Rice Street, Cliff Avenue, and onto Interstate 90. Benson Road will remain open from Cliff Avenue to Interstate 229.
This project reconstructed approximately one and one-half miles of Benson Road and one mile of I-229 ramps. Work included construction of the DDI, grading, concrete surfacing, curb and gutter, storm sewer, lighting, signals, permanent signing, and pavement marking. The DDI will be fully operational in October 2024. Some finishing work on the overall project is planned for the 2025 spring and summer construction season.

Aug. 15, 2024 – Sept. 15, 2024, Completed Work: Completed paving the eastbound Benson Road driving lanes from Casco to I-229. Completed paving the I-229 southbound on-ramp. Completed Benson Road Bridge work.
Anticipated work Sept. 15, 2024 – Oct. 15, 2024: Continue to pave the I-229 northbound off-ramp. Work on the installation of signal lights at Lewis Avenue. Work in the installation of signal lights at I-229 on and off-ramps.

Sept. 13, 2024 - Social Media Update:
Beginning at 8 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 16, 2024, two temporary lane closures are scheduled to be placed on the Benson Road and Interstate 229 Diverging Diamond Interchange project in Sioux Falls.
The first lane closure will be placed in the southbound driving lane of I-229 under the bridge at Benson Road. The second lane closure will be placed in the northbound driving lane under the 6th Street Bridge.
The lane closures are scheduled to be removed on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2024, at 5 p.m. Both lane closures are needed for crews to perform berm work on the bridges.
Motorists should be prepared for delays and use alternate routes during peak travel times through the work zone. Drivers are urged to use caution and reduce their speed while traveling through the area. Traffic control measures will continue to guide motorists around all closures.
