Benson Road traffic will be maintained on the north side of Benson Road as the south half of Benson Road is being reconstructed.

Project Updates: 

April 8, 2024: The southbound Interstate 229 driving lane has been closed today, Monday, April 8, 2024, as construction crew begin work on the Benson Road bridge at the I-229 and Benson Road interchange. The lane closure is anticipated to be in place through Friday, May 31, 2024. Benson Road will remain open from Cliff Avenue to I-229, while the lane closure is in place. Motorists should be prepared for delays and use alternate routes during peak travel times through the I-229 and Benson Road work area. Traffic control measures will continue to guide motorists around all closures.

Press Release - April 2, 2024
: Starting Thursday, April 4, 2024, Lewis Avenue will close at Benson Road for the installation of utilities and grading. The closure will be in place through Wednesday, May 8, 2024. Benson Road will remain open to traffic as the contractor works on the south driving lanes from Casco Avenue to Interstate 229. Traffic will be maintained on the north side of Benson Road. Access will be maintained to businesses throughout the project.

Press Release - March 26, 2024: 
Starting Monday, April 1, 2024, the South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) will begin reconstruction work on Benson Road and the Interstate 229 interchange.  

Benson Road will remain open to traffic as the contractor works on the south driving lanes of Benson Road from Casco Avenue to I-229. Traffic will be maintained on the north side of Benson Road. Access will be maintained to businesses throughout the project.

The project will reconstruct nearly two miles of Benson Road and approximately one mile of Interstate 229 ramps. Work includes construction of a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI), constructing a structure, grading, concrete surfacing, curb and gutter, storm sewer, lighting, signals, permanent signing, and pavement marking.

A $34.3 million reconstruction project on Benson Road and the Interstate 229 interchange is unfolding in Sioux Falls, S.D.
