Chamberlain - S.D. Highway 50

Project Complete

Project Summary:

This project is a 4-mile grading, surfacing, and landslide repair project on SD Highway 50 at Chamberlain. The project extends from K Street to I90 and is separated into multiple phases.

The first construction phase will be from the railroad bridge in Chamberlain to Sorenson Drive and will consist of landslide repair, roadway grading, and asphalt surfacing. When completed, the surfacing will be 4 lanes wide. This work is expected to be completed in late September.

The second phase will be from Sorenson Drive to I-90, and will consist of shoulder widening and asphalt surfacing. When completed, this section will be 3 lanes wide (one lane in each direction with a center turn lane) and 8’ wide shoulders. This work is planned for September through November.

The third phase is on Main Street from K Street to the American Creek bridge, and on Courtland Street from Main Street to King Street. The work in this area will consist of milling and overlaying the existing asphalt surfacing. This work is planned for late September or early October.

Work remaining for 2022 consists of pavement reconstruction at Sorenson Drive, and paving the top lift of asphalt from the railroad bridge near Paul Gust Road to I-90.

Traffic will be maintained throughout the project with a combination of lane closures and flagger/pilot car operations.
