2023 SDDOT Annual Report

Thanks to the collective efforts of many, the South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) continually provides a safe and effective public transportation system across South Dakota.

As demonstrated in the report, the 2022-23 winter season was one for the record-books. Our SDDOT winter maintenance staff (and those behind the scenes) worked countless hours to keep South Dakota’s Interstate and state highway system clear and safe in some of the toughest winter weather conditions experienced in recent years.

South Dakota experienced several multi-day winter weather events that were very taxing for our employees fighting the elements. In addition, our personnel were involved in an unprecedented number of rescue missions to save stranded individuals across our state. In response to challenges experienced last winter, SDDOT continues to improve communication with travelers.

Collaboration is key. The work of our 1,000 members SDDOT team is not possible without the contribution of many across our state. We owe our success to many partners in local, state, tribal, and federal government, and to the taxpayers whose funding makes our work possible.
